Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia is still incomplete: in 1926, following the death of GaudÆ, but above all owing to a lack of funds, the work was interrupted. It was only resumed later, in 1940, through the generosity of the faithful, but this ha
s presented many difficulties since GaudÆ left only a series of general studies for a work in which details play perhaps the most important role.\par
In Gaudφ's project, the church, in a Neo-Gothic style heavily influenced by \b \cf4 \ATXht182 modernism
\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 , was to have had three monumental facades, each surmounted by four towers reaching a height of over a hundred meters, symbolizing the apostles. The apse was to be crowned with a tall tower dedicated to Mary, and the central spire, ringe
d by four towers representing the Evangelists, was to be dedicated to the Savior. So far, the east and west facades, the crypt, and the four towers of the right transept are almost completed.
